The day started out very nicely with eggs and bacon on the deck of the restaurant at Meadowood hotel (one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed at, dozens of acres in the heart of wone country), followed by an hour long massage!

We then made it to the lighthouse at very end of Point Reyes. They say it’s the windiest place on the West coast and it sure felt like it ought to be. It looks a lot like it could be in Ireland with the steep cliffs and sometimes lunar landscape due to the lack of trees. (more…)

Bikers too get sunburns

Today started out with a short trop from the hotel to one of the most breath-taking views I have ever seen.
We drove up a short windy road which led us up high in the hills over-looking the Golden Gate bridge and the bay.
We had an almost 360 view, with the bridge and the sea at our feet, Alcatraz and the city off in the foggy distance. (more…)

Knackered

Very long day today. Started out with Monterey aquarium to say hi to the sea otters and check out what can only be described as insanely trippy jellyfish.

Then we drove down to Big Sur which was absolutely stunning. First a long stretch along the coast, between steep hills with deep folds and the sea streching out to the horizon. Then the lush forest, almost alpine in a weird way. (more…)

First two days

So, we got to San Francisco after the usually long and frustrating flight, some time around 1pm and pretty knackered.
After checking in to the hotel and checking out the cracking view through the double glazing of SF fog and lack of sleep, we went on a bit of a tour of the city.
It wasn’t before a seriously oversized burrito in the Mission, several expeditions to bike shops in search , of the perfect helmet, tons of time spent in the streets looking for cabs, and even longer spent inside cabs, and finally the biggest sushi meal in the world…that we made it back to hotel for an early night. Last Night in Europe

I just arrived in Paris to meet up with Nicolas. Bloody typical…the luggage handlers are on strike at the moment, so it took me ages to get my bag…

Tomorrow’s the big day as we’re flying off to San Francisco for a one month tour of California on motorbikes. There must be some kind of a conspiracy going on as taxi drivers are also on strike and have decided to block access to the airport tomorrow…very difficult not to rant about this…so I’ll use my legendary self-restraint (…) and spare the few people kind enough to read this.
