So today we reached Crater Lake, the main reason we travelled up to Oregon.
I had never imagined the crater could be so immense, or the view of its abrupt mountainous rim so beautiful.
The whole thing is so dramatic and picturesque that its first sight knocked the wind out of me. Forced me to sit, silent and humbled.
We were lucky that it was very sunny and so the lake in the crater al the way down below was a rich mediteranian blue-green. (more…)

For our second day in blistering Grants Pass, we wrongly assumed that we would be sizzling under the white hot sun while white water rafting.
Turns out that the sun didn’t really get its act together until after we’d come back. Actually the water was so cold that each time we hit rapids and got splashed, it was like a mini hydrothermic shock. (more…)





On the way to Oregon

We had considered staying in Arcata a couple days but promptly decided we’d seen one too many 60 year old hobo ranting to himself…so we changed our itinerary instead and kept on travelling north on the 101, which allowed us to cross all of Redwoods National Park.
Even after a couple day riding on the Redwood Highway there’s no way you can become blaze about the giant redwoods and sequoias. (more…)

Last night’s B&B in Mendocino was the first place with wi-fi we encountered in a couple days so we took our time to enjoy breakfast, send emails etc..

The ride today was brilliant. We went through all sorts of scenery and types of roads. We started by going back South a little to see a Pigmy Forest we read about in a guide book. (more…)

Last night we stayed in Jenner, in a slightly dingy cottage by the sea with a pretty nice view.
We decided to back track to Bodega Bay because it had looked pretty cool the night before.
The drive was well worth it. The rocks I’d spotted in the sea dotted the coast, and came in all shapes and sizes. (more…)
